"Learning To Ride" - by C. Twomey • Sold
Painted in 1994, when I was, indeed learning to ride. This oil on panel paints from deep in my soul’s greatest fear - the rearing mount. All those letters? Dressage markers that I was attempting to understand and memorize. Somehow I learned to manage the fear, mainly out of self preservation because the horse could feel everything I was thinking. Have a terrific weekend.
"Azalea Riverbank" by C. Twomey
Work In Progress, this was painted live, plein air at the Azalea Festival at the North Carolina Arboretum. A glorious, luscious and sneezy day painting with friends. A little bit more work to do before release.
"Ode To Killian" by C. Twomey
Killian’s Red was my first horse, and what a thoroughbred he was. I painted this portrait in 2007 to capture his vitality and sassiness. He was as green as I was, but we trained each other over the next 18 years. Flaxen mane and tail against a gleaming chestnut coat, he is greatly missed on this anniversary day. This is oil on canvas, and is sold.
“Resilient Ram” A 22 X 30” Contemporary Fresco on Aquabord.
VAA Art100 International Award Winner by C. Twomey
“Resilient Ram” by Catherine Twomey has been selected as a winner in the VAA Art100 International Exhibition. The Visual Artists Association, London curated approximately 1000 entries to 100 finalists, including this piece. Part of the "Tar Heel" Exhibition at the Upmarket Gallery in Asheville, through June 2025. Reflective of the strength and resiliency of Asheville following Hurricane Helene in September, 2025.
The ram symbol is associated with a multitude of meanings, often representing strength, courage, and vitality. It's also linked to leadership, determination, and even fertility. The ram's horns, in particular, are often seen as a symbol of power and aggression.
This original piece is pigments painted on Aquabord. It is archival, requires no glass, is varnished and ready to hang in a birchwood surround. For additional information, visit: https://www.catherinetwomey.com/new-products/resilient-ram-contemporary-fresco-22-x-30

"Beaver Lake, Early Morning" - Sold Adventure
Sold! I thought this piece was stolen. Honestly, it wasn’t where it was supposed to be in one of my galleries. It’s one of my favorite pieces, a plein air from Beaver Lake in Asheville. Well, the gallery had put it in their front window, didn’t let me know, someone spied it and bought it yesterday. I only found out where it had been placed when it sold. Glad it worked out but oh, oh, the angst. Thanks for the support.

“Beaver Skull, Winter Light”, 9/5 X 9/5” Contemporary fresco. Having visited this favored beaver skull before, this time I used a new medium (watercolor), new board (Aquabord) and winter light. For whatever reason, this time the beaver's smile became more apparent. I have a feeling she will be painted again. Framed in a beautiful handmade burlwood frame, ready to hang.

“Colorado Cumulus”, 8 X 10” watercolor on Canson Board.
"Colorado Cumulus" Watercolor by C. Twomey
Just drove across the United States, from California to North Carolina - with lots of flat desert but incredible skies. This view took my breath away as the sun descended.
Joshua Tree rock formations, watercolor.
Joshua Tree Watercolors by C. Twomey
Joshua Tree rock formations, watercolor.
Such a magical, beautiful, quiet place. Joshua Tree National Park is like no where else on earth. Plates collided causing underground volcanoes and incredible rock formations. The Joshuas aren’t trees at all - they’re from the Aqave family and even just the small ones are 50 - 75 years old.
