“Beaver Skull, Winter Light”, 9/5 X 9/5” Contemporary fresco. Having visited this favored beaver skull before, this time I used a new medium (watercolor), new board (Aquabord) and winter light. For whatever reason, this time the beaver's smile became more apparent. I have a feeling she will be painted again. Framed in a beautiful handmade burlwood frame, ready to hang.

“Colorado Cumulus”, 8 X 10” watercolor on Canson Board.
Just drove across the United States, from California to North Carolina - with lots of flat desert but incredible skies. This view took my breath away as the sun descended.
Joshua Tree rock formations, watercolor.
Joshua Tree rock formations, watercolor.
Such a magical, beautiful, quiet place. Joshua Tree National Park is like no where else on earth. Plates collided causing underground volcanoes and incredible rock formations. The Joshuas aren’t trees at all - they’re from the Aqave family and even just the small ones are 50 - 75 years old.
Fragment from a larger watercolor work in progress, two enormous cumulonimbus fill the horizon. Pigment on Kilimanjaro #140 paper. Finally well enough to paint again; thank goodness for antibiotics. #watercolorpainting #wip #Workinprogress #catherinetwomey1 #cloudscape #pigmentonpaper #cumulonimbus
Certainly seems to be... "Storms a'Brewin", pigments on Kilimanjaro #140 watercolor paper, with oil sticks. Stay safe out there, and peace.
We get the best cloud-sets here in the Blue Ridge. I’ve been virus sick since 12/20, my advice is try not to catch it! Blue Ridge Clouds, watercolor on Canson board. Happy New Year! 8 x 10”.
I am a Featured Artist! Hope you can make it!

A mountain inspired grouping of transparent pigments on Aquabord. Just the start of the series as I follow where it takes me.
I am pleased to announce a new series of Pigments on Aquabord paintings, recently completed. This is just a preview image of two zebras I encountered in Kruger National Park at sunset. The prime viewing time for African animals is very early in the morning, or sunset. There was such a mystery to watching them end their day in companionship and light. This piece is 12 X 12” on 2” Aquabord and is varnished and ready to hang. It will be released soon.
A tranquil scene depicts a waterfall cascading between rocky cliffs into a serene pool, with sunlight illuminating the rocks and water. The interplay of soft colors creates a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere. This is at the top of the Tahquitz Canyon at Aqua Caliente in Palm Springs. Painted plain air.
This is a contemporary fresco on Aquabord. It does not need glass framing; it is varnished.

Painted along Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park, summer, 2024. It was 90 degrees, but the snow on the peaks still held up, shimmering in the sunlight. The glacial silt in the water made the most beautiful blues.

“Many Glaciers Mid Afternoon” - watercolor, 10 X 14” on Arches Archival paper
I just returned from a couple of weeks visit to Glacier National Park in Montana. It was a bucket-list trip, and so worth the effort. Daily hikes and painting sessions made the trip memorable. Only ran into one grizzly bear (one is enough….) and saw lots of mountain goats. This painting was from the front of Many Glacier Lodge, where lots of glaciers still exist and are so beautifully clean and reflective.
Early spring venture up to a mountain pass orchard near my home. Painted plein air, in a field next to the apple trees. I was struck by the white blossoms of the apple trees against the receding mountains. This is an original painting on archival Crescent board, and is ready for framing.

I sat above the ocean for about three hours, after having hiked from the last road towards the tip of Tomales Trail. While sitting here painting, a coyote slid by, his eye on me the entire time. I could hear the waves lapping against the shore as the tide came in. The pattern of the cliffs was of particular interest and beauty”
It was a hike through the Botanical Gardens in Asheville to get down to this stream. It was so worth the effort, however - look at those reflections! and those shadows! Exquisite. I wouldn't have thought this would happen, but once other hikers saw us, they too clamoured down the banks to talk and watch. Sometimes that's annoying, but this day was so perfect; so peaceful - that I welcomed their happy presence and delighted in their kind support. Watercolor on archival board.Just added "Serenity Stream" to my Singulart gallery here: https://www.singulart.com/en/artworks/catherine-twomey-serenity-stream-1670035
"Waterlily Hearts" is a waterlily watercolor, about 10" X 15" on Crescent board. Painted at the Biltmore Estate, I was as fascinated with the delicacy of the design as I was the colors.
North Carolina/Tennessee border. Imagine sitting for hours along the banks of a somewhat hidden creek. There are fishermen there, friendly and pulling trout out of the clean, clean water. The bugs aren't out yet because it's early spring; it's a bit cool in the morning but warming as the sun ascends. You're soothed by the literally babbling brook while completely absorbed by the task at hand. A most glorious day. Sometimes the shapes are as mesmerizing as the sound of the water! Watercolor, gouache, Arches paper, about 8" X 10".
