Liquid Blue Ridge sunset002.jpg

"Liquid Blue Ridge Sunset" oil on board

This small but mighty, luminous and liquid oil painting is the ideal accent for a special area in a home. It was painted plein air - outside on a mountain above Asheville, NC, obviously as I watched the sun go down.

The painting has luscious layers of paint which can be seen in the enlargement. I was deeply inspired by the multiple layers of color that changed by the minute.

Award Winning Artist Auction Ending Today

Original Oil by Twomey
The Sun Found The Hillside

The Sun Found The Hillside auction ending today, Wednesday March 12 on Daily Paintworks. This is a 10 X 8" original oil on linen.

The way the sun hit this hillside as it raced to the horizon is what drew my eye. Down below, a old shanty town was lost in the shadows. The rusted roofs were such a contrast against the strong hillside design - I had to paint it. There were a couple of hours to get it down, but the sun was quick to depart and I had to fight not to overwork it. It was a goal reached.

The painting is unframed. This is how it would look framed:

Auction Ends Soon for "Sedona Day's End"!!!

Sedona Day's End (oil on linen, 8 X 10")

The auction for Sedona Day's End is ending later today! Please visit this link to place your bid.

As the sun climbed down thru the sky, I was on a bluff painting en plein air (live) as quickly as I could. This was my first trip in 30 years to Sedona, Arizona, but oh, was I glad to see such a sight.

The rocks really are that color, the mist hangs over the valley and I only had about an hour or so to get my impressions down. I was surrounded by fellow artists, equally inspired, and we were so focused on nature's brief gift of a spectacular sunset.

I'm heading back to Sedona in May, and can't wait to relive the other-worldly red rock offerings.

This original oil on archival linen board is 8" X 10", and is unframed.

Advance Mills Hay Bales 1: Auction!!!

Oil by Twomey
Advance Mills Hay Bales

Auction listed at:
http://www.dailypaintworks.com/buy/auction/200537

Advance Mills was an old mill town about two miles from my home. The road, Advance Mills, is one of my favorites - twisty, turny, on a ridge - the views along it are so spectacular you really have to focus to stay on it.

We looked at buying some of this land, so I spent a lot of time walking it and loved catching it at sunset. You can see why. I had to work fast, as that shadow in the background rapidly crept over the sun spots. The woods behind were already dripped in shadow, with sky holes poking thru. What a glorious day.

This original oil on archival linen board is 6" X 8" and is unframed.

The painting would look like this if framed:
