Friday, November 7 is First Friday in Asheville, NC - hope you can make it to my gallery at Upmarket, 70 Market St., Asheville. The following piece, along with other wonderful artists, are on offer there:
“African Jackrabbit”, 12 X 12” Contemporary Fresco.
A mountain inspired grouping of transparent pigments on Aquabord. Just the start of the series as I follow where it takes me.
I am pleased to announce a new series of Pigments on Aquabord paintings, recently completed. This is just a preview image of two zebras I encountered in Kruger National Park at sunset. The prime viewing time for African animals is very early in the morning, or sunset. There was such a mystery to watching them end their day in companionship and light. This piece is 12 X 12” on 2” Aquabord and is varnished and ready to hang. It will be released soon.
Happy to announce that historic Woolworth Walk, 25 Haywood Ave. in downtown Asheville, is now featuring some of my work. Hope you can make it by!
Lots of "Thank you's (or youse)" lately to the wonderful people who support my artistic efforts and purchase my prints and/or original artwork. You're inspirational, motivational and downright kind! Grateful - more so than you can imagine. Etsy: catherinetwomeyart.etsy.com
Hope you can come and meet me at 1 Plymouth Court, Kenilworth, Asheville this Saturday and Sunday. Starting at 10, ending at 5 - it would be such a pleasure to meet you! I’ll have originals and prints, snacks & spring water. The weather is going to be PERFECT! See you there, and thanks.
I've finished an accounting of what I sold at the Kenilworth Artists Association Open Studio Tour - and I am so thankful for the support and interest! 31 pieces sold, some that I've had in the studio for over a decade, but that I always liked and that now have good homes! Thank you very much and I hope to really see you next year, when COVID is hopefully just a bad memory. Alright, back to replenishing the inventory.
I know it's early, but you know how time flies! If you're in town, I would love to meet and greet at 1 Plymouth Circle, Asheville on Oct. 9 & 10. It's going to be an EVENT with original art, prints, food, drinks and the kind of people you'd like to know. Save The Date! & thanks. #kenilworthartists
Painted this on Inauguration Day, so I'm naming it: "Victory Sunset" - inspired by what it took to get here; all the people undeterred by the previous administration who are ready to move up and onward. The original is for sale as are prints. Oil, 12 X 12" on archival board. Have an excellent, safe day.

When I hike up a trail approaching a bare area (bald) or rounded hill, I get such an expansive, peaceful feeling. Near my home is the Biltmore Estate which has grounds manicured back in the day (early 1900's) by the famous Frederick Olmsted. I go there often to hike and am often struck by these 100+ year old oaks at the top of the balds. They're so large their branches often hit the ground as they loom over me!
In this painting I was thinking about the cools and warms. This magnificent specimen was just getting a hint of autumn colors. The right side has a variety of purplish and blue/green colors. I was drawn to the brilliant warmth of the trunk as it was hit by the setting sun. Rather than paint in individual leaves, I massed the shapes to suggest their beauty but focused on the patterns of warmth playing against the cools throughout the painting.
This original oil is on stretched canvas with a poplar wood frame. It has painted edges of 1.5".
SOLD to a lovely lady in Virginia. She had to cancel her long-planned big wedding and go for something safe and simple, then decided to reward herself with this painting of Coquina Beach, Florida. Grateful to have "met" her and wishing her the best with her new life! 12 X 12" on archival canvas board. #seascape #coquinabeach #floridapainting #seascapepainting #contemporaryart #fineartcollection #fineartinstartist #ocean #gulfofmexicopainting #sunsetpainting #beachpainting #collectors #instagood #insta_art #wavepainting #waves #galleryart #gallerycollection

“Sun Over the Blue Ridge”, 12 X 16”, acrylic on raw canvas, ready to hang.
The weather here in Asheville has been rather spectacular the last few days. The nights are getting colder, it's almost Halloween, and this week the time changes. Life moves on!
Another spectacle: the mountain hikes. And - my foot has just "graduated" post surgery to being able to hike again! We headed to Black Balsam Knob and switchbacked to the 360 views. I was mesmerized by the clouds, the changing trees and of course the layers of rocks and hills below the top. Nothing quite as dramatic as the autumn sky and swirling clouds.
I am exploring a new technique. It involves using raw canvas and literally "staining" the canvas using pigments and a wetting agent. I've found working like this leads to very intense, rich colors that leap off the fabric. This allows me as little or as much control as I desire, which is exactly what I was looking for in a technique. 12 X 16" on raw canvas, wired and ready to hang.

This painting was sold a while ago, but I’m happy to say it lives on. “Sedona Afternoon Sun” is currently being added to the Mission Hospital Advanced Medicine Collection.
Work In Progress, “Max Patch Hedonism”, 22 X 28” acrylic pours, metallics and hand painting.
Hike a section of the famous Appalachian National Scenic Trail (or A.T.) on top of Max Patch Mountain near Hot Springs. This 4,600-ft. bald mountain was cleared and used as pasture in the 1800s. Today, it's a 350-acre tract of open land on a high knob with 360-degree views. It's one of the most spectacular settings you'll experience in the Blue Ridge.
