Sold! “For The Love Of Horses” has sold; this is a 12 X 12” acrylic and gold leaf on canvas. Seems I need to paint more horses; the itch is returning.

The Red Wolf Project
Starting in on sketches for the Red Wolf Project by Champions for Wildlife. Red wolves are the most endangered species in the U.S.; there are only 300 left in the wild. This is the 1st T-shirt design for fundraising. #redwolfproject #championsforwildlife #wolfsketch #catherinetwomey1
Daylily Farm Paint Out: A Lovely, Hot Day
We got to Blue Ridge Daylilies early - around 8? - because the temp was going to climb. The daylily fields were in full bloom, with flowers of all shapes and colors. I spied a friend painting in the shade, which spoke to me. It was a battle between him and the rooster sculpture - so they both won out. Oil, 8 X 10”, available.
Marshall, NC Plein Air! A Town In Recovery.
Had a fine, hot time painting in Marshall, NC with the Asheville Plein Air Painters. Marshall was devastated from Hurricane Helene, but there are hopeful signs of recovery. But how can they NOT have a permanent Post Office? Geez. Where's the $$$$, Don? Across from On Your Bike, I spotted this fine VFW mural & gave it a go. Complex, patriotic & optimistic it was. It's a WIP 8 X 10" oil.
Glad It's A Summer Friday - Pink and White Gladiolas!
Oil, 9 X 12”, Sold. Have a fabulous weekend.

A Day With The Daylilies
It’s a work in progress but almost finished with “A Day With Daylilies.” I need to decide if I’m keeping the rooster sculpture, and work on some refinements in lilies and shadows. Oil, 8 X 10” on panel.
"Scarlet Tanager" Oil by C. Twomey
This 5 X 7” original oil, titled “Scarlet Tanager” will be offered soon! Framed in a custom 13 x 10.75 x 1.5 in antiqued copper and black frame, it is a tribute to native birds of the southeast U.S.
Flitting through the coastal forests and shrublands of North Carolina it is one of the region's most striking songbirds. With feathers as vivid as a sunrise, the Eastern painted bunting stands out brilliantly against the lush green backdrop of the southeastern United States. Often described as a "flying rainbow," the adult male sports an unmistakable plumage of electric blue, lime green, and fiery red, making it one of the most colorful birds in North America. However, despite its dazzling appearance, this species faces serious threats and is a Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN) in North Carolina.

Works In Progress
Recent outings in North Carolina, from ponds to the Arboretum to the Blue Ridge. These are all Works In Progress - but I love the immediate reaction and freshness.
"Azalea Riverbank" by C. Twomey
Work In Progress, this was painted live, plein air at the Azalea Festival at the North Carolina Arboretum. A glorious, luscious and sneezy day painting with friends. A little bit more work to do before release.
"Ode To Killian" by C. Twomey
Killian’s Red was my first horse, and what a thoroughbred he was. I painted this portrait in 2007 to capture his vitality and sassiness. He was as green as I was, but we trained each other over the next 18 years. Flaxen mane and tail against a gleaming chestnut coat, he is greatly missed on this anniversary day. This is oil on canvas, and is sold.
“Resilient Ram” A 22 X 30” Contemporary Fresco on Aquabord.
VAA Art100 International Award Winner by C. Twomey
“Resilient Ram” by Catherine Twomey has been selected as a winner in the VAA Art100 International Exhibition. The Visual Artists Association, London curated approximately 1000 entries to 100 finalists, including this piece. Part of the "Tar Heel" Exhibition at the Upmarket Gallery in Asheville, through June 2025. Reflective of the strength and resiliency of Asheville following Hurricane Helene in September, 2025.
The ram symbol is associated with a multitude of meanings, often representing strength, courage, and vitality. It's also linked to leadership, determination, and even fertility. The ram's horns, in particular, are often seen as a symbol of power and aggression.
This original piece is pigments painted on Aquabord. It is archival, requires no glass, is varnished and ready to hang in a birchwood surround. For additional information, visit: https://www.catherinetwomey.com/new-products/resilient-ram-contemporary-fresco-22-x-30

Joshua Tree rock formations, watercolor.
Joshua Tree Watercolors by C. Twomey
Joshua Tree rock formations, watercolor.
Such a magical, beautiful, quiet place. Joshua Tree National Park is like no where else on earth. Plates collided causing underground volcanoes and incredible rock formations. The Joshuas aren’t trees at all - they’re from the Aqave family and even just the small ones are 50 - 75 years old.
