This earth series is deeply inspired by a respect and love for all things in nature. I live in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina and love to hike through the mountains. Their inspiration is what drives this series, as well as concern for the environment. It's interesting to imagine what's below the mountains; the geology, the layers, the rock striations.
This painting is 12 X 16" Canson canvas on board. It is unframed. This is acrylic including a brilliant metallic gold.

Catherine Twomey, "Blue Ridge Blue Sheep Cloud" 30.000" x 21.375", print
Painted live along Skyline Drive in the Piedmont Area of Virginia, in Shenandoah National Park. Made me feel like an angel as the warm summer breezes overcame my easel and me. I loved the patterns; the repetition of shapes and most of all, the color of these mountains. See the sheep cloud to the upper right? My eye finally found him after I thought I was done, but he's welcome to stay.
"Blue Ridge Blue Sheep Cloud", C. Twomey,
Thank you very much to the collector!
Blue Ridge Swirl
Working on a new series, this piece was influenced by the Blue Ridge Mountains around Asheville NC. The acrylic pour technique is challenging but very interesting to see what will happen with the colors.
"Deep Forest 1.0" Acrylic pour and drawing in paint, 5X7" on archival board.
"Deep Forest 1.0"
Quite different from my typical style, I'm loving the freedom of the acrylics and colors merging. I included some freestyle drawing using a quill pen. Thinking abstractly is a new and wonderful challenge.
This work is a cracking example of a new series. I'm using a pour technique combined with drawing. First I select my palette, then I mix my colors in containers using flow medium and sometimes dimethicone. I then free flow the paints into one single cup, deciding at the same time what color goes with what for the vision in my mind. Next comes the exciting pouring of the concoction onto an archival panel. Lastly is the drawing using various implements and a lot of creativity.

"Liquid Blue Ridge Sunset" oil on board
This small but mighty, luminous and liquid oil painting is the ideal accent for a special area in a home. It was painted plein air - outside on a mountain above Asheville, NC, obviously as I watched the sun go down.
The painting has luscious layers of paint which can be seen in the enlargement. I was deeply inspired by the multiple layers of color that changed by the minute.
Value Sketch, Near Sarasota
Robinson Preserve, near Sarasota, Sunday, January 7, about 2:00 pm.
Having a wonderful time getting back to some value work. This preserve was stunning; took a walk for about an hour and saw herons, egrets and mangroves. Faber Castell pastel pencils on a grey paper sketchbook.

"Boat Dock 3" by Catherine Twomey, 6 X 6" oil
What a day for a daydream. Boat on dock; it's there every day.
Background:
Art is my life. From the first art project I can remember (making a Christmas Nativity scene in grade school that overshadowed the resident artist) art has always been what brings me the greatest satisfaction. Without art, I am not who I am.
I am now working full time as a fine artist, a dream that I've pursued for as long as I remember. Landscapes engage and challenge me, and I have a very soft spot for animals.
My artwork has been featured at the world renowned TED (Technology, Education and Design) conference (TED MED in San Diego, on huge high definition screens throughout the exhibition center). I recently won the nationally acclaimed ArtInPlace competition in Virginia which placed a 12' X 24' mural on aluminum of my work, now seen by thousands of commuters daily.
Two museums currently house my art: The William H. Benton Museum in Connecticut, and The LLoyd Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was a great honor to be asked to exhibit and I continue to add to their collections. Speaking of collections, my work is a part of hundreds of private collections worldwide.
As a passionate defender of Artist's Rights, I have traveled to Washington, DC to meet with Senators and members of Congress as they debated the Orphan Works law (an attempt to "orphan" copyrighted artwork by separating the creator from their work) which we defeated. In addition, as a member of the American Society of Illustrator's Partnership, I continue to work to secure reprographic royalty streams from the ongoing publication of artist's works.

In the summer, the oaks look bigger then ever, and this one is just plain massive. It has the most interesting branches and patina.

Early spring, my garden. The wild, glorious rhododendron plant by the front door. Rich, fluid, with a main flower reaching for the sun, others behind it doing the same. Painted plein air on archival linen board, unframed. You won't believe the pinks against the greens, with all the freshness of the season.
